Out-of-home advertising agency in Sydney

Out of home is where a brand starts to look like a brand.

Founders feel it the first time they see their ad out in the wild. Their customers feel it too.

We plan and buy out-of-home advertising for Sydney and Australian brands: roadside, transit, retail, gyms, office towers and digital screens. Senior people on every booking.

Out of home never works alone

We never recommend out of home on its own. It works by adding up: it makes your digital, radio and search work harder while it runs.

If you want to go deep in one area, pair it with digital channels. If you want to flood the zone for one audience, pair it with radio. Then use your other channels to pick up the people the boards have warmed up.

How we plan it

  • Your audience. Who they are, and what creative they need from you.
  • Their journeys. Where they go and when, and where they are most likely to act.
  • What you can afford to own. Out of home is not cheap. We would rather own a corridor than spread thinly across the whole map.

For a fashion magazine's Australian launch, we followed one reader through her day: on transit, at the gym, in her office tower. The creative picked up the themes of the magazine, and once awareness was there we added content that told her what was inside.

When out of home is right for you

We suggest it once a brand hits one or more of these milestones:

  • Digital has hit a ceiling. Meta, TikTok, Google Search and BVOD are saturated and costs are rising.
  • Your retail distribution is locked in. You are in a major stockist such as a chemist chain or a Westfield. Out of home on the path to purchase makes the sale more immediate.
  • You need brand fame. A launch, a PR moment or an activation people need to hear about.
  • You are raising money or pitching a major customer. Being seen in the right precinct at the right time matters.
  • You have budget to scale. Sydney is an expensive out-of-home market, and owning part of it takes commitment.

If you have $10,000 for a quarter, out of home is not the answer. Put it into Meta or radio first.

What it costs in Sydney

Typical ranges we see in 2026, for the media alone:

  • From about $30,000 for one tightly targeted area, often using distressed inventory: unsold space sold late at a lower price.
  • $50,000 to $150,000 per four-week flight to dominate a local precinct.
  • About $200,000 for multi-format reach across Sydney.
  • About $250,000 for a landmark site such as the Anzac Bridge, sometimes less when it comes up as distressed inventory.

Media costs are paid to the media owners. Our fee is separate: retainers start at $5,500 + GST a month, or The Lab can plan a single campaign, from $5,000 + GST.

What we buy

  • Roadside and large format. Bridges, arterial roads and the big sites, for mass awareness.
  • Transit. Buses, trains and Sydney Metro screens, where daily commuters see you again and again.
  • City and precinct screens. Street furniture in the city and business precincts, useful for B2B brands.
  • Retail and point of purchase. Shopping centres, chemists, supermarkets and petrol stations, for the last nudge before someone buys.
  • Gyms and office towers. For reaching her through the working day.
  • Programmatic digital out of home. Screens booked by place and time of day, switched on when you are ready. It costs more, so we use it when speed and timing matter.
  • Mobile around the sites. Geofenced mobile ads that follow up on the people who passed your boards.

Work we can show

  • The Bondi project for Cebu Pacific. Digital out of home across weekends to build awareness of an activation at Bondi Beach. We chose the sites by foot traffic and time of day, and booked them programmatically so the campaign could switch on when the client was ready. Foot traffic went up.
  • A government campaign for students. Buses and schools, two of the few places students put their phones away. We used distressed inventory on the bus routes students take, and said no to QR codes on the side of buses, because asking people to scan a moving bus is not safe.

How we measure it

Out of home is harder to track than digital, so we plan the measurement before the boards go up: QR codes where it is safe to scan them, survey questions, device IDs at activations, and the lift in brand search and digital results while the campaign runs.

Out-of-home advertising FAQ

How much does billboard advertising cost in Sydney?

For the media alone, from about $30,000 for one targeted area to about $200,000 for reach across Sydney. A landmark site such as the Anzac Bridge can be about $250,000.

What is the minimum budget for out of home?

About $30,000, with flexible timing so we can use distressed inventory, and only if we can focus on one area and the way your customer moves through it.

Is out of home worth it for a small brand?

Only once you hit one of the milestones above. With $10,000 for a quarter, Meta or radio will work harder.

Can you track out-of-home advertising?

Partly. QR codes where it is safe, survey questions, device IDs at activations, and the lift in brand search and digital results during the campaign.

What is distressed inventory?

Out-of-home space that has not sold close to the date, offered at a lower price. You need flexible timing and creative ready to go.

Do you buy digital out of home?

Yes, direct with the media owners and programmatically, when you need to switch on by place and time of day.
