What a marketing agency really costs in Australia, with our published prices

Our prices are on the page. A Growth Plan call is free and takes 30 minutes. The Blueprint is $5,500 + GST over ten working days. A retainer starts from $5,500 + GST a month, with a three-month minimum, and moves to a published percentage of media as spend grows. The Lab starts from $5,000 + GST. Your media is paid on top, and we take no commission, mark-up or rebate on it.

The price on a proposal is only half the answer. The other half is who does the work, and how the agency makes money on your media. Here are both.

Our published prices

  • Growth Plan: free. A 30-minute call with the person who would do the work.

  • The Blueprint: $5,500 + GST, ten working days. Your strategy across paid, owned and earned. If you go on to a retainer, your first retainer month is 50% off.

  • Retainer: from $5,500 + GST a month. Three-month minimum, then rolling 30 days. No lock-in after that.

  • The Lab: from $5,000 + GST. A focused five-day project.

Every price on this page is plus GST.

Why $5,500 + GST

It is the minimum anyone pays us, and it buys a lot.

You get counsel from very senior people. You get an ad hoc CMO who also does the work. It is strategy and execution in one fee, and we work side by side with you.

On a retainer that includes:

  • Getting the basics right first. How you are set up, how many people you lose at checkout, your margins, your offers and sign-up offers, your email. Every touch point, checked against best practice.

  • Inside your systems. We go into your Shopify and your backend, and make sure your copy and your pixels are firing.

  • Business numbers, not platform numbers. Order value, lifetime value, margin, market share and brand equity.

  • New work in market in week one. In your tone, written the way people actually think and buy.

  • A weekly rhythm. A weekly snapshot on spend, what is working and what we are changing. One call a week. A monthly council on strategy and budget. A quarterly reset.

  • A dashboard so you can see, week on week, whether we are hitting the goals in the plan we built together.

For that cost you are hiring a full marketing team.

What the Blueprint covers in ten working days

  • Day 1: a kick-off with the founders. We agree the sign-off rules and capture your baseline numbers.

  • Days 2 to 4: Elaine audits the ad account, site, tracking, email and socials, reads your competitors' ads and messaging, and reads your customers' own words. You get a short email each day on what she found.

  • Day 5: a working session. Not a presentation. This is where positioning gets argued out.

  • Days 6 to 9: build.

  • Day 10: delivery and handover.

You leave with one document that says who you are for, what you stand for, how you sound and the first campaigns to run, plus a baseline to measure against.

What a lower fee often leaves out

We can only speak for our own pricing. What we can tell you is where the difference usually shows up.

Who runs your account. A common frustration with traditional agencies is the senior team that pitches, then hands the work to juniors learning on your budget. We have a no-bait-and-switch guarantee. The people you meet are the people who manage your money and your strategy.

How long it takes to find what works. A junior team might spend a month and $10,000 of ad spend testing theories. With 25 years behind us, we already know what works, so we get to the breakthrough faster, without endless revisions.

What gets measured. Junior media buyers tend to focus on platform metrics. We integrate media into the business strategy, so spend is judged on growth.

How we are paid, and how your media is paid

  • You pay Google and Meta directly. You can pay through us if you prefer.

  • No commission, mark-up or rebate. We take nothing from media owners. Everything you pay through us goes into your media.

  • Our rate card, as spend grows:

    • 15% of media spend under $100,000 a month

    • 12% from $100,000 to $250,000 a month

    • 10% above $250,000 a month

  • The $5,500 minimum applies until 15% of your spend passes it, which happens at $36,667 a month in media. Until then you pay the flat fee, so every dollar you add to spend gets cheaper to manage, not more expensive.

  • Creative is an optional add-on, concepted, written and edited by us:

    • 10 ads a month: $1,000 + GST

    • 20 pieces of organic content a month: $2,000 + GST

We are members of the IMAA, Independent Media Agencies of Australia. Long relationships with publishers, platforms and vendors let us negotiate strong rates and better placements for your budget.

How many agencies make money on media

Elaine spent years inside the big holding company agencies. There, agencies often had to buy from vendors they held deals with, and the rebates from those deals helped pay for the extra people in the room. Bundled offers are common too: you hand over $100,000 and receive $150,000 of "value", made up of space the agency bought cheaply because it was not selling.

Questions to ask any agency before you sign

  1. Who pays Google and Meta: me, or you?

  2. Do you take any commission, mark-up or rebate on my media?

  3. Do you have trading deals with any of the vendors you are recommending?

  4. Who will actually run my account day to day?

  5. What is the minimum term, and what happens after it?

  6. What is in the fee, what is extra (such as creative), and how does the fee change as my spend grows?

  7. Do your prices include GST?
